What is Physiotherapy? Treatment  Explained.

In plain language, physiotherapy helps your body put itself back together so everything works again to the fullest extent possible.

After an injury, it is very common for lingering pain, soreness, and limits to your range of motion to plague you indefinitely. These can be those little pains that never seem to go away, or debilitating pains that force you to live and move differently, but that you accept as part of life. You may discover that with physiotherapy, life doesn’t have to stay that way.

Benefits of Physiotherapy

Some of the primary benefits of getting treatment from a registered physiotherapist are:

  • Reduce pain, swelling, and stiffness
  • Manage chronic illnesses and correct chronic injuries
  • Staff wears masks
  • Improve your mobility and range of motion
  • Recover faster after an injury
  • Prevent the need for surgery and future injuries
  • Reduce the need for opioids and other pain meds

It’s tough to put a price tag on living a healthy life with your body fully functioning as it was designed. Many people needlessly live with pain that hinders their quality of life and in some cases, prevents them from doing things they need or really want to do.

With physiotherapy treatment, very often they find they do not have to keep living that way.

  • Pregnant and post-partum women

Physiotherapy FAQ

Physiotherapy reduces pain by treating it at the source. Most muscular and tendon pain is caused by real physical issues. Pills and meds can’t fix that problem. By using targeted exercises and other treatment methods and sometimes technology, a patient can very often help their body heal itself as long as they commit to the treatment plan for long enough.

It depends on the injury. Some injuries, like muscle injuries, can take 6-8 weeks. Serious and chronic injuries can take several months, whereas minor injuries might need only a few sessions. Some injuries can be treated at home with free exercises like some of those given earlier on this page, and you never need to see an actual physiotherapist.

If you’ve had a serious injury or had surgery, usually you wait until the swelling goes down before starting physical therapy. If you have a chronic or repetitive motion injury, you can go see one as soon as possible.

A recovery plan will be created after a thorough assessment by your Physiotherapist. You’ll get answers to your questions about your condition and how to avoid future pain. Manual Therapy Techniques, Manipulative Physiotherapy, Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, Active Release Technique, Soft Tissue Techniques, Vestibular Rehabilitation Process, Exercise Therapy and Electro-Therapy or a combination of all may be included in your individualized treatment plan.

We also provide patient education and instruction on optimal health, so you are clear on what to do when you leave our clinic. Most patients begin to feel better immediately.

Physical therapy shouldn’t hurt when done by a licensed therapist.

It is possible however possible to hurt a little but that means it’s working.

You are going to have to work, and you may or may not feel sore after each session.

You should not let this discourage you.

It is necessary to train your body in order to get stronger. It shouldn’t be painful, but it may include deep stretches and exercises that push you out of your comfort zone.

Every patient is different and so is every patient’s response to the therapy. However, it’s important to remember that your therapy session can be tailored according to your needs and it should never be uncomfortable for you.

The best way to do that is by communicating your individual healthcare goals, providing reactions to the therapy and telling your therapist what’s it like and what are you feeling, as a result you can experience holistic recovery and healthy lifestyle.

Yes. Most health insurance companies cover the cost of your physiotherapy sessions however to be sure always check with your insurance care provider. Some insurance companies ask for a referral from a doctor and if that’s the case you may need to get it from the doctor before seeing us.

No, you don’t need a referral to see us. But, if your insurance company requires you to have a referral from the doctor before seeing us then you may need to call your local health practice to get it arranged.
